Hamilton Girls Basketball Beats Hopkins by 48 Points

This Friday the Hamilton girls basketball team took on Hopkins at home.

It was a dominate game all-around for the Hawkeyes with Hopkins never getting into double-digits in any of the quarters. Hamilton won the game 69-21, only giving 9 points the entire second half and being up 44-12 at half time.

The Hawks showed aggressive defense from the start and saw major contributions from Senior Ashley Overbeek and Freshman Joslyn Bronkhorst. Overbeek had 21 points at half time and finished with 27 points. She also had several steals throughout the game, but sat most of the second half. Bronkhorst had a career high 13 points well making significant contributions all over the court.

The Hawkeyes played great team defense and when coach Dan Van Hekken was asked about what his expectations defensively were going into the game, he responded with, “I expected a lot of energy and we got that, so that was really good to see.”

Hamilton’s record is now 3-1 and their next game will be at West Ottawa on the 17th.
