Overbeek Breaks Scoring Record With Monstrous Performance

HAMILTON, MICH. – Hamilton senior Ashley Overbeek ended last season with a sour taste in her mouth. Not only had her 21-1 girls basketball team fallen to an Ionia team in the first round of the regional tournament, but she had fallen just two points short of the school scoring record that had lasted for just under 20 years.

But, in one performance Overbeek showed that it was all behind her. It only took 24 seconds before she made two free throws to tie her with the record previously held by Jill Herbig. Herbig set the record in 1995 with 1001 career points. Four minutes later Ashley broke the record with a back to the basket shot to put her at 1003.
From then on Overbeek never looked back scoring a career high 36 points in a 62-55 victory over Class-A Jenison. The record now stands at 1,035 points with Overbeek looking to add onto the record as the season continues.
