Hamilton Girls Basketball OK Green Outlook

On Tuesday the Hamilton girls basketball team will take on Byron Center at home. This will be the season opener for the OK Green conference and should be a great game.

The Hawkeyes will enter conference play with a 3-3 record and will be led by Hamilton senior, Ashley Overbeek. This year Overbeek broke the all-time scoring record for girls basketball. She is coming off of a 26 point performance in a 48-45 loss to Grand Rapids Catholic Central.Hamilton’s first opponent, Byron Center, is 5-1 on the year, including big wins over both Grandville and East Kentwood.

Other teams that will make runs at the OK Green title this year will be Zeeland West and Holland Christian. Zeeland West has a 5-3 record currently and will enter conference play with lots of confidence after defeating their rival, Zeeland East 37-28. The Dux’s will get big plays from Kiri Tiemeyer who has led the team in scoring throughout the year. Holland Christian will be the favorite to win the conference and will enter with a 5-2 record. The Maroons came just three points shy of knocking off 7-0 South Christian and will be led by Bre Luurtsema and Hope Leppink. Leppink led HC in scoring against South Christian as she totaled 12 points in their loss.

The OK conference should have plenty of battles with many teams that have a shot at making a run at the conference title this year.
