Lady Hawks Down Rival HC

On Friday night the Hamilton girls basketball team took on their arch-rival Holland Christian. The Hawkeyes played great down the stretch winning 41-38 and got big plays from their senior guard Ashley Overbeek. Overbeek had 19 points, 15 of which were in the second half and she also had four threes.

The Hawkeyes got off to a great start in the first quarter as both Courtney Vandevorde and Ashley Overbeek had four points in the first to help Hamilton get out to a 12-9 lead. The second quarter was different story for Hamilton, as they were outscore 7-2 and didn’t even get on the board until the 1:20 mark in the quarter. Hamilton would trail 16-14 at the half.

But, the Lady Hawks found their groove in the second half thanks to 15 points from Ashley Overbeek, who made some clutch free throws down the stretch. But, the biggest play of the half came with just 42 seconds left in the game as Courtney Vandevorde stripped a ball from a Holland Christian ball handler, that helped seal the win for Hamilton.

The Hawkeyes also saw a big contribution from Rachael Talsma who finished with 12 points in the game.
