Lady Hawks refuse to look back after win against Allendale

Since their game against Grand Rapids Catholic Central on January 11th, the Lady Hawks haven’t even thought about looking back. The girls have now won 3 straight,¬†after a win tonight against Allendale. The final score on the night was 42-22.

Hamilton got ahead of Allendale in the first quarter, and just built their lead from there. The Hawkeyes didn’t look back all the way until the final buzzer sounded. Something that the Hawkeyes seemed to have really improved on from earlier in the season has to be the amount of times they pass before shooting. The girls seemed more focused on getting a good shot off, compared to how many shots they can get off. I think their ability to take their time was the key to their success tonight.

If the girls plan to keep this hot streak going, they will need to continue getting solid guard play out of their senior Ashley Overbeek, who led the team with 22 points tonight. Overbeek is very hard to contain, as we see her continually burn tough defenses. The only way opposing teams have been able to contain her are through double teams, which always leave another teammate open to pull up for a shot. Either way, it’s a win-win for the Hawkeyes.

Another key to this streak is Hamilton’s aggressive post play. Rachael Tolsma and Brogan McMahon have been keys in the post for the Hawkeyes. Rachael Tolsma brings the intensity, while Brogan McMahon brings the size. This gives Hamilton’s guards other scoring options which will be crucial in the long run for getting by tough perimeter teams like Holland Public and Holland Christian.

The Lady Hawks are looking to swoop in and take another win at Zeeland West this Friday. A win this Friday would keep their unblemished conference record in tact.

Lets fill that Zeeland West gym with Hawkeyes this Friday at 6:00 P.M, and show them just what #htownstrong is all about.
