On February 7th the Hamilton boys and girls basketball teams will take on the Holland Christian Maroons. But, this will be more then a basketball game for both schools involved in the game. This will be the 2nd ever “Two Hearts For One Cause game”. The event raises money for breast cancer awareness. Last year was the first year of the event and it had great success, with almost $10,000 being raised from the event last year.
The idea was started last year by five middle school students, Camden Blood, Emily Woodke, Madeline Rudolph, Emily Haverdink, and Brooklyn Groenheide. All five of them had been impacted in some way by breast cancer and felt like they wanted to do something to raise money for the event. One of those 8th graders, Brooklyn Groenheide, is a key player on the girls varsity basketball and will play in the event that she helped create this year.
The money will be raised through several different donation types. If you donate $12 or more you will receive a pink t-shirt featuring the Two Hearts For One Cause logo. With the purchase of the t-shirt you will receive free admission into the game. There are also three separate sponsorship levels available. The first level is cotton candy which would be a donation of $100 and comes with 10 shirts. The second level is hot pink which is $200 and comes with 20 shirts. The third and highest level is pink cadillac which is a $300 donation and comes with 30 t-shirts. All donations will go towards breast cancer awarness and will get the company’s name announced at half-time of the games.
The girls game will start at 6:00 p.m. with the boys game following at around 7;30 p.m., the game will be played at the Civic Center in Holland.
