On Saturday morning at Hopkins High School, Hamilton High School senior Logan Welcher will be going for his 100th career win. There have been a total of 35 wrestlers that have reached this milestone in a total of 44 years of Hamilton Hawkeye wrestling history.

Since 2000, there have been 20 wrestlers that have reached this milestone including the all-time leader Shawn Pitsch with 207 wins. In comparison to other wrestlers that have reached this milestone, Logan was able to do it with less matches due to a shorter season (Use to be 16, now modified to 14). Also Logan was able to reach this milestone in three seasons instead of four due to not being a starter in his freshman year. “It has been a three year accomplishment, It has been a much more difficult task compared to the other wrestlers,” Stoel added.

In order to reach this milestone, Logan had to average at least 33.33 wins a year instead of 25 if he wrestled for four years. Coach Stoel thinks that Logan will be wrestling like himself, without much pressure on him. “It will be just another match for him. He is such a great wrestler.” Coach Stoel also pointed that watching Logan “is like a tree growing in a forest, it is going to be really hard to grow without sunlight” He said this because Logan will be following his brothers footsteps by finding success in his wrestling career and it is very difficult to be the third of the family to enter this short list.

Logan will be only the 35th wrestler to reach this milestone in his wrestling career; he will join his brothers Brandt and Collin Welcher on the list. Coach Stoel knew that Logan would get onto the list, he just didn’t know when. “We all knew he would get to the 100 win mark, it was just a matter of time.” Being the 35th wrestler to reach this list is incredible especially since this doesn’t happen that often.

The Covering Hawkeye Sports staff will be on hand to capture the day’s events.  Please check back Monday for more on Welcher’s pursuit of win #100.
