Rachael Tolsma to attend Hillsdale College

Hamilton’s girls track team has had a lot of success these past couple of years, and a big part of that is due to senior Rachael Tolsma. She is a four year track star, and she competes in many events, but the biggest is shot put. She recently has made her commitment to attend Hillsdale college, a division II college just north of the Indiana border.

Rachael was being recruited by several colleges and received many offers. Rachael said, “I was also looking at the University of Findlay, Ferris State University, and Grand Valley. I chose Hillsdale because I really liked the campus, high academic standards, and coaches. It felt more like home than any other place because it was small and everyone was friendly. The new indoor track is a plus too.” Hillsdale was the best fit for her and her future needs. Another thing that helped in her decision to go there, was that Hamilton graduates Molly and Emily Oren both run track there and they will now be teammates again next year.

One of the biggest factors in her choice was the academics at Hillsdale. When I asked her what she was thinking for a major she responded, “I was thinking maybe biology or chemistry, i’m not really sure yet.” She is still in the process of figuring out what she wants to do but has high standards for her academics at the next level, and believes Hillsdale is the best place to set her up for the future.

So as senior year winds down to its end, Rachael has had a huge burden lifted off her shoulders with this choice. She is very excited for college and her next four years there. She has a bright future as a track athlete and as a Hillsdale Colt.
