What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear whistles, gunshots and feet pattering on tartan well the crowd is cheering for their team. That’s right, It’s time for the girls to get in shape for track this spring! But there is one person that is more excited for track to start up!

Coach and math teacher, Travis Pertner has been involved with the girls track team since 2000. Not only is he a great teacher but he is a great coach as well! Coach, Travis Pertner is always excited for track to start up. “It is always our goal here at Hamilton to build strong teams. Having a committed and talented coaching staff that builds strong relationships with athletes is what we value the most in our program. As usual we will be working for a high up finish at team State and for many Top 8 finishes at the MHSAA meet.”

We may be a small town but, that doesn’t mean we don’t pack power. We aren’t known as  H Town Strong for no reason. We may live in a small town in the country but, that doesn’t  mean we don’t take our sports seriously. The Hamilton girls track team has proven numerous times that we take our sports seriously. Last year at the 2013 conference, the Hamilton’s girls track team finished with a 5-0 and got first in OK Green.

We are looking at a pretty strong track team this year with a few state qualifiers and returners from last year! Tenth graders, Jody Bunschoten is a mid-distance runner, Kambrea Sale is a thrower. Eleventh graders, Hope Fathman, a distance runner and  Stephanie Johnston, a sprinter and a mid-distance runner, as well as Courtney VandeVorde. The Hawkeyes also are returning seniors Brogan McMahon and Rachael Tolsma, both throwers. We are also looking at a few newcomers this year that we are looking forward to having on the team . Twelfth graders, Alex Wilkins. Eleventh grader, Sydney Cook, Aubree Devisser and Melanie Kanine. Tenth graders, Gwen DeFouw and Kacie Grady. Ninth graders, Kelly VandenBerg, Elaina Slayton, Jennica Schaffer, Erica Freyhof and Catherine DeFouw.

In one month the girls track team will be competing against many different schools. They are counting on there home town members to be there cheering them on! Not only are the girls track team going to make new records this year but they are going to have fun doing it. So remember, we are known as #htownstrong for a reason!
