Cross Country Struggles For the First Time of the Season

On Saturday the Hamilton Cross Country teams traveled to Otsego for the Otsego Bulldog Invitational. The boys team finished in the middle of the pack at 9th place. However all of the boys that ran, ran their season best times. Mark Freyhof lead the team with a time of 16:10 and finished second. Matt Field sat out because he is battling a slight leg injury and hopes to rest it for the conference meet on Wednesday.

On the girls side, the Hawkeyes finished seventh out of fifteen. Erika Freyhof finished fourth with a personal best of 18:38. Audrey Freyhof and Jennica Schaffer finished well with times of 20:21 and 20:45 respectively. Hope Fathman started the race but dropped out before the 2 mile mark, also battling an injury. The Hawkeye girls move to 13th in the state.

The Cross Country program will be hosting Zeeland West on Wednesday. The Zeeland West boys are are ranked third in the state and the Hawkeye boys are 25th, which will make for a good meet. It is the team’s only home meet of the year, so come out and support your Hawkeyes.
