Hamilton Volleyball Drops Game Against Byron Center

By: Chandler Timmer

On Tuesday, the Hawkeyes and Bulldogs battled for the OK Green title. The teams came into the game at first and second place in the conference with only one game between them. In a hard fought match, Byron Center again came away with the sweep 25-19, 25-20, 25-20. All three games were close with only a few points separating the teams. After dropping the first set Hamilton came out a little slow to start the second falling behind 9-1. They battled back and ran with the Bulldogs the rest of the way, but couldn’t ever manage to fully pull ahead. Even though they didn’t win, Coach Abby Ekkens was happy with the effort. “We played them a lot better than we did the first time around. I wasn’t disappointed with our play at all. A couple of things didn’t go our way. We just came up short tonight.” Jordan Pikaart led the Hawkeyes with 20 kills and Courtney VandeVorde added 7 more. Destiny Alexander had 22 assists and 14 digs while Erin Meiste had 10 digs. Leading Byron Center was dominant middle hitter Staci Brower. Whenever the Bulldogs needed a big play they turned to Brower. Hamilton struggled to stop her all night as she tallied 24 kills. With the loss the Hawkeyes dropped to 30-7-5, 8-2 in conference, and finished second in the OK Green. Byron moved to 31-9-1, 10-0 in conference, and won the OK Green outright.
