Hawkeyes down Hopkins, move to 3-1

HOPKINS, Mich. – On Friday the Girls Varsity Basketball team looked to move to 3-1 on the season, taking on the Vikings of Hopkins. The Hawkeyes started out strong, on a 15-0 run to start the game, and set the tone. The Hawkeyes lead held as the beat the Vikings 49-24. VanHekken said the lead allowed him to “play a lot of players.”

Courtney VandeVorde had 19 points to led the Hawkeyes. Kendra Bott also had 10 points. VanHekken said that VandeVorde and Bott “did a nice job of passing and scoring against Hopkins zone.” VandeVorde said the team was able to transition frequently and performed well on offense as well. VanHekken added that their team defense was great against the Vikings.

The Hawkeyes are back in action on Tuesday against the Panthers of West Ottawa at 7:00pm in Hamilton.
