Overwhelming Hawkeye defense downs Lady Tigers

ALLEGAN, Mich. – This Tuesday the Hamilton girls basketball team took on the Allegan Tigers in their third game of the season. It was a dominating performance for the Hawkeyes who held the tigers to just 15 points in a 36-15 win.

Hamilton was led by senior Courtney Vandevorde who scored 11 points and helped Hamilton dominate on the glass, and shut down the tiger’s offense.

When asked about keys to beating Allegan, Vandevorde said, “We worked on being physical and using their weaknesses and our strengths.”

Hamilton played great defense throughout the whole game allowing for them to get out to 13-4 first quarter lead and they never looked back. The Hawkeyes never gave up more then five points in a quarter, Coach Dan VanHekken credits the defensive play of his team to aggressiveness, “We always want to try to play as aggressive as we can rather in the man or zone.”

The Hawkeyes are now 2-1 and will be next in action Friday in a boys and girls double-header vs Hopkins.
