By: Courtney Vande Vorde

HOPKINS, Mich. – On Friday the Hamilton Boys Basketball team came up with a nail biting, 54-52 win over Hopkins. The Vikings were leading the game 43-41 at the start of the fourth quarter, Hamilton outscored them 13-9 coming up with their second victory of the season.

Grant Wolfram led the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds. While Brady Mudd and Colton Becksvoort each contributed with 10 points.

The Hawkeyes were in the lead at the end of the first quarter then fell behind in the second and third. The team came out in the fourth quarter with a goal.

Grant Wolfram said, “They all agreed they needed to improve their communication on defense.” Coach Behnke gave us similar information saying “They needed to improve their effort on the defensive end to limit them to one shot, and did it.”

Hopkins had a last second three point shot that wasn’t successful. “They had a good look at the end and the ball bounced our way.” (Coach Behnke) You may say that the team was lucky to come out on top when it came down to a shot like that. Coach Behnke said it well,  “Were we lucky?, no. We won that game on the defensive end.”

The Hawkeyes are back in action Tuesday against West Ottawa at 7:30.
