Hamilton Flexes Offensive Muscle, Beats Grandville

by Eric Petersen

HAMILTON, Mich. – The Hamilton Boys Varsity Basketball team faced off Tuesday night against Grandville at home, starting off on a 14-0 run and never looking back, winning 71-52.  The Hawkeyes were led by Grant Wolfram with 21 points and 6 rebounds, followed by three others with double-digit scoring numbers.

After the game, Coach Haverdink said, “We felt like we needed to control the things we could control and you look at the way we started the game with the big run”.

They certainly controlled almost every aspect of the game.  The Hawkeyes had more height, allowing them to dominate the rebounding battle and the low-post play.  Not only did the Hawkeyes dominate the glass, their defense was far superior, holding Grandville to a low 29% shooting, while Hamilton shot 62%.

Grandville is 3-10 on the year in a very tough O.K. Red conference.  Their leading scorer Tuesday night was Sam Cornett with 18 points, followed by Ryan Ham with 10.  There’s no such thing as an easy game on the Hamilton’s schedule, so this is a very good win for the Hawkeyes as they continue their season.

Grant Wolfram agreed by saying, “It’s a big confidence booster heading into Friday, we just need to come into practice, and focus.”  This Friday, February 6th, the Hawkeyes play a very good Holland Christian team, in what’s sure to be an amazing rivalry game at the Civic Center.
