Lady Hawkeyes fall at the Civic Center

by Jared Zdzinicki

HOLLAND, Mich. – On Friday night, Hamilton took on Holland Christian for the second time this season.  After falling to the Maroons in the first game, they fell once again to Holland Christian 54-49 at the Civic Center on Friday night.

Brooklyn Groenheide led the Hawks in scoring, putting up 15 points for Hamilton. Courtney VandeVorde was close behind with 12 points.

“I thought we played H.C. much tougher than the first time around.  We put ourselves in a position to win the game but just couldn’t seal the deal,” said Coach Vanhekken. “ I thought Brooklyn Groenheide had her best game of the year, She did not turn the ball over much and made good decisions as far as when to attack and when to distribute the ball.”

One thing Coach Vanhekken told his team before the game was to just play Hamilton Basketball and take pride in it. We did a pretty good job at that, but unfortunately we weren’t able to come away with a win.  The community should be proud of how our team played, and will continue to play throughout the season.

“I think we can take a lot of good things from that game,” said Brooklyn Groenheide.

The lady Hawkeyes are improving in practice and are hopeful to take a win in the next game versus Zeeland West.
