Lady Hawkeyes Use Strong Start to Beat the Dutch

HOLLAND, Mich.- On Wednesday night the Hawkeyes traveled to Holland for a conference match-up against the Dutch. Hamilton jumped off to a quick start racing to a 19-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. From there they carried the momentum into the 2nd quarter holding Holland to only 2 points and a 31-7 advantage at half. In the third, Hamilton extended the lead to 37-10. Holland then responded with a strong fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome the slow start with a final of 45-24. Joslyn Bronkhorst led the Hawkeyes with 11 points while Abi Ediger, Brooklyn Groenheide, and Courtney VandeVorde each chipped in 8. For the Dutch, Martha DenHerder led the team with 9 points and Angel Murphy added 5. With the win Hamilton moves to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in the OK-Green Conference. The loss keeps Holland winless on the season, 0-19 overall and 0-9 in the OK-Green. The Hawkeyes are in action again tonight in Byron Center starting at 7:30 p.m.
