Maroons rout Hawkeyes in 2nd meeting

HOLLAND, Mich. – On Friday night the Hamilton boys basketball team faced rival, Holland Christian. The last time the two teams met, Holland Christian came away with the 61-54 win. This game had a similar outcome as the Maroons once again became victorious, winning 60-41. HC got out to a big lead early thanks to a 13-0 run straight off the tip, but the Hawkeyes did what they have done all year and answered the run with one of their own, rattling off eight straight. As the first half expired though Holland Christian extended their lead to nine thanks to a contested three pointer and they would never look back, sealing the deal on the conference lead thanks to a Holland loss earlier that night.

“Everything we game planned for, we stuck to our plan and started executing it after a while,” Senior guard Evan Woodke said about the Hawkeyes ability to stick in the game early.

Next Hamilton will take on state ranked Wayland on Tuesday night. Wayland will be led by former Detroit-Mercy commit, Lacey James. It should make for a great match-up as he will most likely be guarded by Grant Wolfram.

“We move forward, we talked in the locker room that we are going to watch the film, we are going to figure out what we need to fix and move forward against a very quality opponent as we g to Wayland, in my opinion one of the best teams in the area,” Coach Haverdink said.
