Girls Cross Country Finishes Third in Regional Meet

BUCHANAN, Mich. – The Hamilton Cross Country teams traveled to Buchanan High School for their regional meet, and the women’s team placed third in the meet. The girls team has qualified for state and the following lady Hawkeye runners will be participating in the state meet, Erika Freyhof, Audrey Freyhof, Kim Sikkema, Melinda Overbeek, Sheryl-lyn Zahl, Rachel Baas, Grace Pate, and Jennica Schaffer.

Junior Erika Freyhof comments on the team’s performance, ”Our girls team did outstanding! We were so excited that we got the chance to go to state when we weren’t expecting it.”

The top performers of the meet were Erika Freyhof in first place with a time of 18:46.4, and her sister Audrey Freyhof not far behind in 9th place with a time of 20:44.0. Both girls have a promising chance to do well in the upcoming meet. “Erika will be the 1st girl runner I have ever coached to win a State Championship.  Audrey is hoping for a Top 30 finish” says Coach Pertner.
