Girls Swimming Looks to Better Times at Conference Meet

HAMILTON, Mich. – The Hamilton Girls Varsity Swim Team is off to compete at the OK Green Conference Championships this Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7.

We are pretty much locked into a 5th place finish,” suggested Coach Eric Talsma. “If we come out firing on all cylinders would could potentially move up a spot or two.”

Despite their potential finish in 5th place, the Hawkeye’s are still looking for great performance come Friday and Saturday.

“Our main goal for the meet is to see some great time drops from our girls that are rested for the conference meet.  We would also like our girls that will be heading on to the state meet to have a few more chances to race and learn heading into the state meet,” Talsma said.

As the season comes to a potential close for many of the swimmers, there are some who are still looking to make their first state cut. Both Lauren Fairchild and Audrie Flinsky are on the edge of qualifying.

“This season was filled with learning for all of our girls. Our freshman really learned how to train and race. We took advantage of most our opportunities to race and learn how to become better competitors. It was a great season filled with progress,” Talsma concluded.

The OK Green Conference Championships will be held at the Byron Center High School with the prelims on Friday, followed by the finals on Saturday.
