ALLENDALE, Mich. –  On Monday, November 2, the Varsity Volleyball team lost to the Unity Christian Crusaders in 5 sets in the first round of districts. The Hawkeyes lost in the fifth and final set by a score of 11-15, while they won the first and third sets by scores of 31-29 and 25-23.

Junior Aly Dyke had to say about the match, “We played our hardest match of the season, it was upsetting to not be able to finish the way we expected, but I know none of us should be upset with how we played because we played as a team and not individuals. I’m looking forward to beating them next year.”

The Hawkeyes were led by seniors Maddie Stehle with 18 digs, and Frannie Prins with 15 digs. Sophomore Taylor McIllwain finished with 12 kills, three blocks and two aces.

Hamilton coach MaKenzie Branderhorst said “The girls really came to play and played the best match we have played this season. We came out ready to play and it was great to see the girls fight hard. We are graduating 4 seniors and will miss each of them. We are a young team and are returning almost our entire starting lineup, the sophomore class coming in is very athletic so we look forward to starting to prepare for next year.
With the loss on Monday the Hawkeyes season has come to an end. They finished with a record of 6-30-1.
