Hawkeye Wrestlers Split Matches in Home Opener

By Madison Copeland

HAMILTON, Mich. – On Wednesday night, Hamilton hosted a quad taking on Coopersville and Comstock Park.  The Hawkeyes beat Coopersville by a score of 60-11 in the first match before suffering a close loss to Comstock Park 30-39.

With only five upperclassmen, there are many unknowns about the Hawkeye lineup.  As the upperclassmen did well, the Hawkeyes who lack varsity experience picked it up for the Hawkeyes.

Head coach Gregg Stoel was very proud of his team as they showed confidence.  His thoughts on the younger Hawkeyes was that they displayed better technique than expected.  He believes this will be a great season with impressive leadership.
The Hamilton Wrestlers are at Zeeland West High School for their first team tournament this Saturday.  It starts at 9:30 a.m.
