Hawkeyes Destroy Vikings in Season Opener

HAMILTON, Mich. – The first game of the boys season came off strong with a huge win over Hopkins. The Hamilton varsity boys started their season off with a home doubleheader against the Hopkins Vikings at 7:30 on Friday, December 11. The Hawkeyes beat the Vikings with a score of 57-35.


Top players for the game included senior Dylan Oonk (#12) with 11 points, freshman Brad Osborne (#30) with 12 points, one assist and senior Ben Koopman (#54) with 12 points, one assist.  Oonk paced the Hawkeyes with nine points in the first quarter.

Coach Haverdink said, “They were ready to play.  With four weeks of practice, you get ready to play. Junior Justin Stezowski admitted that “[he] was pretty nervous, but as a team we felt pretty confident.”  Senior Kyler Rubley explained that, “[it was] definitely a good win for us. We put in a lot of work as a team in the past month and it felt good to get this win.”

The Hawkeyes play again tonight in Grandville at 7 pm. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
