Boys Basketball Falls to GR Catholic Central

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Hamilton varsity boys basketball team has had a difficult start to this year, as they have struggled with a few tough losses. The boys suffered another loss last night against Grand Rapids Catholic Central. They faced a very good team whom they lost to by a small 8 point margin. They have the ability to win games coach Haverdink told me earlier this month. He added that the team had talent it just had to be found and utilized. This small margin of loss to a great team shows that they do have talent to do great things.

Catholic Central got off a 17-0 start on the Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes came back as the game progressed as the Hawkeye’s defense stepped up and held Central to only a 9 point 2nd quarter. The Hawkeye’s offense also stepped up and matched the 9 points that Central had put up.

After the half Hamilton came out and smashed Central with a 15 point period while Central only put up 8. And, at the end of the third quarter the Hawkeyes had cut the lead down to 8. Both teams fought tooth and nail for the win, both putting up 12 points in the fourth quarter, leading to the Catholic Central 48-40 win.

This tough loss adds to the mounting pressure on the Hamilton Hawkeyes to come out with a win. They have the talent but do they have the mentality to face this and beat it.

The Hawkeyes are next in action Friday night at Zeeland West.
