HAMILTON, Mich.- On Friday night the Hamilton boys basketball team matched up against the Holland dutch. Hamilton looked to secure their second victory of the year. The Dutch beat the Hawkeyes by a score of 61-51.
Holland started the game on a high note out scoring Hamilton 32-20 after the first half. Hamilton looked to comeback winning the fourth by a score of 18-8. Junior high school standout from Holland, Demetrius Lake, put up 31 points, 4 assists, and 7 boards in the Dutch victory. Hamilton’s Ben Koopman had a strong performance scoring 12 and adding 15 boards which earned him a double double.
Holland defense held Hamilton to only 29% shooting, while Holland shot 48% which was a huge factor in the game. Even though Hamilton lost on defense, they had 9 steals compared to Holland’s 4 steals.
The loss still holds Hamilton to one win, but as conference play picks up the Hawkeyes look to add some wins. As for Holland they will continue to try for staying above .500 for the District tournament in March.
Hamilton continues play on Tuesday, January 26 against the Bulldogs of Byron Center with another critical conference matchup.
