Girls Basketball Defeats Dux in OK Green Opener

HAMILTON, Mich. – The Hamilton varsity girls basketball team traveled to Zeeland on Friday to take on the Dux. The Hawkeyes managed to go on a huge scoring run to finish off Zeeland West 48-34.

The girls got off to a fast start against the Dux, on a 6-0 run.  Zeeland West hung around and eventually went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for a short time in the 2nd quarter. The Hawkeyes finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead at halftime 21-18.

After halftime the Hawkeyes came out and scored 7 points while limiting the Dux to only 3 points in the third quarter. The Dux managed to close the gap to 4 points in the fourth quarter. Hamilton responded by going on a 16-6 run to close the game. The Hawkeye’s defense forced some key turnovers that helped seal the win in the 4th quarter.

Coach VanHekken said, “I thought the key to winning this game was the start and finish. We got off to a good start offensively and defensively and had good energy through the entire game.”

The girls next game is a home game this Friday against Unity Christian.
