Hawkeyes Defeated by Cougars

By: Chloe DeJonge

HAMILTON, Mich. – January 5th brought the girls basketball team one of their toughest battles. Their 3rd home game was against the Catholic Central Cougars who are ranked #1 in the state for Class B. The final score of the game was 38-55, beating last years score of 17-54.

Senior Abi Ediger lead the team in points scored with 9, followed by freshman Bria Schrotenboer with 7, and tying for third were sophomores Sarah Buresh and Ashlen Wolfram with four points. There was also great help from three point shooters Brooklyn Groenheide and Emily Haverdink.

“Defensively the first quarter went very well…” said Coach Van Hekken. “Second quarter was pretty opposite of the first. We gave up 24 points.”

Come support the Hamilton Hawkeyes at their next game on January 8 at Zeeland West. Tip-off is at 6:00pm. Please wear neon orange in the student section in honor and memory of Mason Dykstra.
