Season In Review: Competitive Cheer
- Updated: March 15, 2016
By: Caleb Topp
The Competitive Cheer team had a great year fueled by their new head coach Mrs. Chantel Taylor.
The Hawkeyes led out the year with a 4th place finish(646.08 total points) at the Otsego Invite with coach Taylor optimistic for improvement.
After the meet, coach Taylor said, “The ladies did well for their first meet,” but added, “There is still room for improvement. They will only get better from here, and I am confident with the skills they bring on and off the mat.”
Their season wrapped up February 20th at the District Competition where they finished 9th, missing one of the top four finishes needed to advance to Regionals.
“I think this is the best districts performance I have been a part of,” junior Madison Copeland said. “This was the meet where our round three came in strong and stuck on the mat for the first time. Next year is going to be hard losing the seniors, because not only are they my friends, but I also have never cheered without them. I am excited to start sideline with the new cheer team this football season, and move on with them through competitive.”
The girls did well this season compared to Hamilton’s history in competitive cheer. The cheer team has the round statistics from all the meets through previous years, and this year they have topped them all off. They plan on improving in the off-season to be ready for next year’s exciting season.
