HAMILTON, Mich. – On Friday, Aug. 19, the Hamilton Boys Soccer team was victorious over Black River by a score of 3-1.

Junior Brady Gilbert scored back-to-back first half goals to lead the Hawkeyes to an early lead. Gilbert’s goals came off of a penalty kick and a direct free kick.

“For the first game of the season, I’d say it was an overall success in that we came out with the hard-fought ‘W’ against a pretty good team, and we were able to get all eligible guys some meaningful playing-time minutes,” Hamilton Coach Tyler Robinson said. “We look forward to more success this next week.”

Vasha Zenk tended the goal for the first half, saving two Black River shot attempts while allowing one goal. Gilbert assisted on a second half corner kick by Bryce DeVries to build a strong two-goal lead. It stayed that way when Logan Hilldore stepped in for Zenk and kept Black River scoreless.

The Hawkeyes are next in action on Tuesday, Aug. 23rd at Allegan. The game starts at 6:45 pm.
