WHAT HAPPENED: The girls varsity basketball team put up a strong fight friday thanks to a big third quarter to beat Hopkins. It was a close game, back and forth through the first half. It was tied 33 all at halftime, and then Hamilton’s defense came alive, shutting down Hopkins and holding them to 2 points in the third quarter. Hamilton kept it going in the fourth taking a 30 point lead. Hamilton picked up the 72-45 win with big performances from AJ Edigar and Sally Merril who combined for 42 points.
- AJ Edigar lead all players 23 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds
- Sally Merril had a big game as well, scoring 19 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists
KEY MOMENT: The girls opened the second half on fire, knocking down threes and building up a big lead, outscoring Hopkins 24-2 in the third quarter. Strong and feisty team defense shut down the Hopkins offense.
THEY SAID IT: Senior Sally Merril after the game said “As a team we recognized that we were flat and had to make the decision to lock down on defense, create energy, and we all wanted to win really bad so we flipped that switch and came out strong in the third.”
WHAT’S NEXT: Hamilton plays again Friday, December 20th at Home against Grand Rapids Union.
